Sacred Screen: Jesus in the Cinema Desert (RELX

Mr.
David L. Tlapek, MA, JD, a former practicing attorney,
is now a writer and filmmaker whose credits include "The
Hidden Gift: War and Faith in Sudan" and "Divining
the Human: The Cathedral Tapestries of John Nava."

The
connection between art and faith is multi-faceted. It often
occurs as a transcendent synthesis, more readily experienced
than understood. Through film screenings, lecture and group
discussion, we will explore this important connection and
examine its elements as found in the art form of cinema.
Our focus this semester will be on the multiple dimensions
of "Jesus in the desert."

The mystic
is the one who sees God's presence everywhere. The wisdom person
is the one who discovers God at the core of their being. This
day of reflection will guide the spiritual seeker to become attentive
to the whisperings of our God who directs us directly. Participants
will explore ways to discover and empower the hidden self to grow
strong and remain authentic.

Mysteries
of the Bible: Old Testament (RELX

Dr.
Daniel Smith-Christopher, PhD, is professor of Old Testament
studies in the Department of Theological Studies at LMU.
Schedule: self-paced;
by correspondence;
completion deadline May 2, 2003
A
survey of the major themes, stories, and characters of
the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). This course uses A&E
video tapes, textbooks, and correspondence (e-mail or regular
mail). Tuition includes the cost of the videos (retail
$289) and textbooks. Students work at their own pace, but
are expected to complete the whole course during the spring
semester.

we nurture our spirits to sustain us in our face-paced lives?
Come and discover journal writing as a process of self-discovery
and a time to explore our spirituality. During this course, participants
will use journal writing as a process to enhance their prayer
and to nurture the spirit. The process is designed for those who
already journal, as well as beginners who desire time-out to do
inner work.

Spirituality Conference/Retreat
Fr. Frank Stroud, SJ, is Executive Director
of the DeMello Spirituality Center at Fordham University, New
York; Mr. Jonathan Galente is Executive Director of the Anne Anastasi
Psychological Foundation.

at Serra Retreat House, 3401 Serra Road, Malibu, CA
A "renewal
for busy people," this retreat is based upon the writings
and the life-influence of the late Anthony DeMello, a Jesuit priest
and spiritual teacher who lived in India. DeMello combined, in
a unique way, Ignatian spirituality and elements of ancient yogic
tradition, an approach that has touched the lives and spiritual
development of many. These days of reflection are designed to
assist participants in their own process of exploration, liberation
and transformation. The cost of this weekend retreat includes
tuition and room & board (six meals and a choice of single
or double accommodations).
