October 28 - November
1, 2002
This week-long series of
lectures and special events, sponsored by the Bellarmine College of
Liberal Arts at LMU, will explore the interaction between Globalization
and Human Rights, Economic Rights, the Media, and Catholic Social Teachings.
"Globalization" refers to the increased inter-relatedness
and inter-dependancy of our world, driven by the intergration of international
markets, the proliferation of communivation technologies and traavel,
and the social changes associated with these developments. As a political,
religious and cultural phenomenon, globalization cannot be restriced
to economic developments, but confronts us with numerous questions of
ethical importance that need to be addressed from a multi-disciplinary
perspective.
Organized primarily for
the students, faculty, and staff of Loyola Marymount University, the
events of this week are also open to the general public, free of
charge. For the exact schedule of events, see http://bellarmine.lmu.edu/bellarmineforum/
